Vacation for fundraising

Vacation CWhether you are a charity or a non-profit organization, fund raising is a continuous challenge. With governments cutting budgets, funding for such organizations has come down greatly. At such a juncture, it’s important to find new and innovative ways to raise funds for your cause.

Travel is something people would be spending on in any case. By using it as a fund raising tool you are just adding an extra justification. See this can work in two ways. On one hand, you can have a certain number of vacation or cruise coupons which can be given to the highest bidder or made a part of a raffle draw. This is the most popular way.

Another way is to offer cause related fund raising vacations on an ongoing basis. Here a person travels by purchasing a fund raising vacation. Every time someone books such a vacation, donations are automatically made to the connected cause and organization. There are quite a few companies which design such offers, allowing you to work for your cause and gain referrals while they send people on vacations, and raise funds for you.

Many people or organizations use vacation homes as a fund raising tool. Suppose the person or organization has a vacation home in a great holiday destination. A weekend in that getaway can easily be auctioned as a fund raiser. Everyone wants to go on a vacation. You are simply giving them a better reason to do so.

When using vacations for fund raising it’s a good idea to ask for referrals too. Someone could be interested in the vacation or in your cause if you are lucky, it could be both! Also, if somebody had a good time they would naturally give your referrals when asked about charity options. So make sure the vacation being offered through the fund raising is worth it. Who knows, you might actually get a frequent traveler as a regular fund raiser!

People are generally not very comfortable parting with their money, even if for a noble cause. Making a vacation a part of the fund raising effort means that they get something concrete in return. And even while you use the funds thus generated to support your cause or organization, they feel they’ve got back something apart from good will. So the next time you are having a raffle or a charity event, throw in a vacation as an added incentive. You’ll have a fund raising like never before.

  1. What a great way to give back! I sometimes find it a bit hard to digest that I am living in the lap of luxury when others in the world are starving.
